Occupy the PEP vote, Brooklyn Tech, Thursday

February 5, 2012 in Calls to Action

Is your school facing closure? Want to make your community’s voices heard?

Don’t let the Department of Education silence you!!

O C C U P Y THE CHANCELLOR’S PANEL FOR EDUCATIONAL POLICY VOTE

February 9th at 5:30 pm at Brooklyn Tech High School (29 Fort Greene Place, Brooklyn, 11217)

This Thursday, the Department of Education’s Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) will convene again to determine the fate of 25 schools the city is trying to close down. Thirteen of the Twenty-five are in Brooklyn.

The Panel for Educational Policy is Mayor Bloomberg’s majority appointed panel that votes on school closures. It has never voted against his wishes. The Panel has never heard or been responsive to voices of real students, parents, teachers, and community members who have already spoken out against their failed educational policy, nor will they be interested in the voices of the hundreds that will sign up to speak the night of. To date, no school slated for closure has been spared.

Join Occupy Brooklyn, OWS Occupy the DOE, parents and teachers as we use the People’s Mic to reclaim our public meeting and block this fatal vote, while demanding accountability from the Department of Education (DOE) to provide adequate support that schools and students need to thrive. There will also be a United Federation of Teachers sponsored rally outside, and a “People’s Panel.” But we can only prevent the puppet vote if you come and join us!

We are Occupy The DOE. We are the 99%. Expect us.
