The Occupy Brooklyn General Assembly is a gathering of people committed to discussion and decision-making based upon a collective agreement or “consensus.” Everyone’s voice is equal. Anyone is free to propose an idea or express an opinion. General Assemblies are commonly called “GAs.” They are usually facilitated by a changing group of volunteers who, in service to and at the request of the General Assembly, attempt to coordinate a fair, constructive, and horizontal discussion. While many base their approach off of those used at Occupy Wall Street, each GA adopts a process of consensus that reflects its unique needs.
In addition to the Occupy Brooklyn G.A., there are a growing number of autonomous neighborhood groups that refer to themselves as or function similarly to general assemblies. The Brooklynwide Framework working group is starting a conversation as to how the various assemblies in Brooklyn can coordinate and act in solidarity.
In the last few months, most Occupy activity in Brooklyn has taken place in local assemblies:

Are you saying that the civil irthgs movement, women’s irthgs movement, the war in Viet Nam, protests against police killing innocent students at Ohio State, protests against lynchings in the south were stupid? That the assasinations of the Kennedys and King, the lynchings, the war, the Ku Klux Klan were okay? I remember the 60′s very well even though I wasn’t an adult at the time. I remember watching live on TV the hosing of the protestors in Birmingham, the police with snarling dogs attacking woemn and children as well as the men (my extended family lived there at the time, I was horrified. I remember thinking the world was falling apart. I don’t think people were stupid and I don’t think they are stupid today. What is happening is that a large number of people around the world are coming together to protest many different things. If you listen you will hear the message, but you have to want to hear it first. This transcends parties, because parties (all of them)are not about people. This was never about parties, that is just media speak to have something to talk about and you only perpetuate it. This is an anger that has been festering for a long time. I am just thankful that there hasn’t been more infiltration by people who get off on violence.

I have not heard of a next GA for a while. I took out the “next OB GA” section, and put in links to the neighborhood GAs. Any more fundamental changes should wait till we reach consensus on what’s happening to OB.

btw. Like they gave these people iosmirspen, but now the stern parent is saying enough is enough, and people like you are eating it up. Kinda misses the point of protests, no? If those militia style cops who are pepper spraying 84 yr old women and beating the crap out of innocent unarmed peaceful protesters doesn’t make you gut wrenching pissed off, and question what the f**k is going on,then there isn’t much anyone else can say that will change your mind, which is fair enough.
