We all know the stories. 20,000 march in Manhattan; media reports say 3,000. Thousands strike peacefully in Oakland; a few dozen window smashers make the headlines. Photographers capture people of all kinds protesting economic injustice; editorial pages paint a picture of young, dirty hippies asking for handouts.
Many news companies in Brooklyn and elsewhere are owned by and operate for the benefit of the 1%. In response, the 99% have created their own media. While we do not depend on corporate media outlets to deliver our message, we will not surrender the national or local narrative to corporate interests. We know there are good reporters across the country who feel the same.
In that spirit, the Occupy Brooklyn Media Room will provide information and materials about the Occupy Brooklyn General Assembly for reporters of all kinds, and to anybody looking to find Occupy-inspired media outlets.
